Several academic studies have concentrated on the severe culture shock that poorer students can suffer after transitioning from a tough high school environment to a university full of privileged students. But the experience of many students from disadvantaged backgrounds – particularly those who are members of the "privileged poor" – has been neglected in scholarly literature, according to Anthony Abraham Jack, assistant professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
