Ever since Jair Bolsonaro's election last year, higher education in Brazil has been fearful about what impact the far-right president might have on universities once he took office. Today, our reporter Rachel Pells reports on the alarm bells being sounded over claims that candidates for postgraduate scholarships might be forced to take an "ideology" test in the future. Although Brazil's postgraduate funding body has said that no such tests are planned, academics say that the claims – which stemmed from an article in a newspaper on mooted education reforms – are symptomatic of how the new administration is creating an atmosphere of "panic and intimidation" by leaking policy rumours.
